When she came to university, Lauren decided to join Cambridge University’s Powerlifting Society as a way of expanding her social life and remaining fit.

She quickly excelled, and in her first year she was scouted to be a powerlifter for Team GB. This led to her competing in Istanbul at the World University Powerlifting Championship, where she was ranked second in the world.

Later, in her final year she achieved the additional honour of becoming the strongest woman in Cambridge and Oxford history. Lauren uses her position to help others on their fitness journey via her Instagram account @lozza.fit where she posts training regimes, competitions, food guidance etc.

She has also become a on-campus mentor, hosting workout sessions with black girls at Cambridge, including one-to-one sessions and group sessions where she discusses topics such as nutritional
facts and the cultural implications of weightlifting. She has coached girls for international competitions such as the British University Championships and the Junior Nationals.

Lauren has successfully mastered the discipline of finding a healthy balance of her sporting and academic responsibilities. She is also working on launching a charity called Bare the Brunt, which can help subsidise or provide a fully paid gym membership to those from a lower-income household. She has already pitched to a partner at McKinsey & Company, where she will be starting a graduate job this year.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

“As the leader of my charity, but also hopefully owning my own gym franchise which is priced economically.”
