DJ AG, real name Ashley Gordon, is a 39-year-old Tottenham native who has won viral acclaim for his pop-up performances on the streets of London. Named Time Out’s Londoner of the Year in 2024, and described by lecturer, writer, and music artist Elijah as the “most important DJ in the UK,” DJ AG’s star-studded, apparently ad hoc sets have featured the likes of Skepta, Jorja Smith, and JME.
Previously an MC and DJ for pirate radio station Axe FM, he has also worked as a sales manager for an (undisclosed) FTSE 250 firm. He began hosting DJ lessons and battles on YouTube before beginning livestreaming to TikTok from his home in 2022. Inspired by roaming YouTube DJ SUAT, he started broadcasting from Wood Green because it was close by. He regularly appears in Kings Cross and Brixton, as well as farther afield in Birmingham and Bristol, and even Miami.
With upwards of half a million followers on Instagram alone, his viral success has seen him partner with Wingstop for a pop-up in their Wood Green shop and collaborate with Defected Records. Famously, one of his earliest Brixton gigs saw Daddy Freddy approach him and take up the mic. “That was the gamechanger,” Ashley has said. “He came on and started doing his thing, and when I posted it things went mad. That was the spark.”
Featuring decks, a mixer, a rig to hold his gear, and a couple of cameras, the setup is simple. While the live gigs may sometimes have modest audiences, his online numbers are huge. The Daddy Freddy clip alone has amassed more than one million views.
