One of the leading voices in contemporary art, Eva Langret is Director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa for Frieze — one of the world’s most influential art fairs. Staged every October in Regent’s Park, Frieze London plays host to the biggest names on the modern art circuit and, through its sister event Frieze Masters, showcases hundreds of years of art history.
Under her artistic direction, Frieze London has, in the past four years, strengthened ties with a wave of new galleries and launched the Artist-to-Artist programme, where renowned artists select young artists for solo presentations at the fair. Last October, Eva unveiled a facelift for Frieze London, which features 165 galleries from 43 countries and attracts over 100,000 visitors annually. A revamped tent was designed to enhance the visibility of the curated collections.
Her profile is set to rise further now that she has become the latest judge to join Sky Arts’ series Landscape Artist of the Year.
Born and raised in Paris, she studied economics at Paris’s Dauphine University before completing a master’s degree in art history at SOAS University of London. Her first job was at 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning, a public art gallery near Brixton that provides a platform for African, Caribbean, and Asian artists.
Prior to joining Frieze, Eva was Director at London’s Tiwani Contemporary, where she focused on artists from Africa and its diaspora and curated across institutions and independent spaces. Passionate about championing emerging artistic talent, she is Vice Chair of the Board of the Camden Art Centre, a trustee of Fluxus Arts Project — a not-for-profit organisation created by the Institut français du Royaume-Uni — and a trustee of Forma, a London-based non-profit organisation supporting emerging and mid-career British and international artists.
